At LATAM Cargo we are experts in the transportation of Pharma products. Since March 2017, we have the Center of Excellence of Independent Validators (CEIV) Pharma certification, granted by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) both as an airline and as a certified operator of Pharmaceutical products in our Miami hub.
Our care option includes two products: PHARMA PASSIVE and PHARMA ACTIVE.
Pharma Passive ‐ A service as unique as your shipments
This specialized product provides a strict protocol for handling pharmaceutical products "passively". We guarantee world-class handling, minimizing the time your cargo remains in a non-temperature controlled environment.
Pharma Active ‐ Committed to security and effectiveness
This specialized product provides an ideal solution to keep pharmaceutical products in a controlled temperature environment during the entire transportation. We guarantee world-class service and proper handling of active containers.
Temperature Pre-Claim Protocol
Our PHARMA product requires maintaining the shipment under the appropriate temperature range throughout the transportation. Clients can inform LATAM about potential deviations from the requested temperature and we will review the claim through our Pre-claim Protocol, where we internally investigate the possible root cause of the deviation and provide Corrective and Preventive actions if applicable.
In order to initiate this investigation the client must submit the following pre-claims forms to our customer care team, who will distribute internally to the corresponding Quality Assurance team.
Pharma Passive: SLA of 12 business days after
Pharma Active: SLA of 18 business days after
Benefits of Pharma Passive
- Cold chain along the entire process. Available temperature ranges: +2 °C to +8 °C; +15 °C to +25 °C; +2 °C to +25 °C.
- Continuous improvement procedures to ensure top quality in our processes.
- Perishable segregation at origin and destination stations.
- Use of thermal blankets to minimize temperature fluctuations.
- Use of thermographs to monitor temperature in each shipment.
- Additional services
- Thermo-Pallet Trailer: Refrigerated transport from storage facility to the aircraft. The service is available at FRA and is subject to additional costs/conditions.
- Full Pallet acceptance: Available at FRA, AMS and BRU. The service is subject to maximum storage capacity.

- Booking and tendering requirements
- The air waybill must be completed following the guidelines in Chapter 17 of IATA′s Perishable Cargo Regulations.
- The required temperature range must be clearly specified in the "Handling Information" section of the air waybill.
- All packages must carry IATA′s "Time and Temperature Sensitive" label and all information must match the information in the air waybill.
- Passive container types:

Customers must book their shipments in one of the following Passive categories:
(1) EXP PHARMA 2 °C ;
(2) EXP PHARMA 15 °C; or

- Container Return: If no return office is available at the point of destination, we can return the container. The service is subject to additional costs/conditions.
Our customers are welcome to use their own devices to monitor temperature, moisture, vibrations, and other factors that may affect the integrity of their shipment during transport.
We rent the active container directly from the supplier (available for Dokasch and Envirotainer). The service is subject to additional costs/conditions.
